Bush Pilots Tales

By: Karl Finatzer

This is a Delightful book of ‘Flying stories Out of Africa’. It begins with a tribute to the Editor, Ian (Neddy) Noakes, who sadly passed away in June 2002 during the final phase of editing this book. Neddy was one of the pilots who die in the AirQuarius HS-748 accident near George that also killed Hansie Cronje.
The book is a compilation of short stories, beginning with the author’s first flying experience, to the attainment of his PPL and the subsequent escapades he becomes involved in. At times it is immensely witty, but there are also some stirring moments remembered which can give you goosebumps! Examples of how easily things can go wrong, and how best to avoid those pitfalls are discussed too. ‘Flying African Skies is a book written from the heart. The author makes ‘no apologies for the slang and colloquialisms…’ and feels that ‘real life and stress situations should not be watered down by unrealistic politeness…’
So, if you can cope with the realities of life, you should enjoy this book.
